Pretty sappy, huh?
Two generations grew up on John Wayne; is it any wonder we Americans seem to think that we, like John in his movies, are always right and invincible? But then again, would having no faith in ourselves and fearing everything be a better path?
As nudists/naturists we KNOW we're right ( just as any special interest group does, of course!). We are millions worldwide yet virtually powerless, though there have been a couple of local victories recently. But we don't feel invincible at all, and in truth, aren't. Precious few of us can 'out' ourselves without possible negative consequences. We are that loathed and feared by our society.
That brings us back to faith in oneself and an indomitable determination to.promote one's cause (classic John Wayne, right?). For nudists, that means that the more often we can share accurate concepts of mainstream social nudism with Textile society, the more time people will have to think about it rationally. Today in America it's likely that most folks haven't a clue as to what nudism is about, let alone how huge it is worldwide or that their neighbors may practice it! It's just the subject of an occasional joke; "No, there really isn't such a thing!" Good for giggles on Ellen.
We need to open up more to our friends and family we can trust. Mostly they're just likely to think we're a little odd, but be aware that there might be some who won't let you babysit their kids anymore! Choose carefully.
Our friend John Wayne was never the one to shirk what he felt was his duty, no matter how much he himself risked.
And he always won in the end, didn't he?
