Those of you with a history with us know that you never know what might pop up now and then. We're All-Nudist but we're also Angie & Steve, and this is where we play! I'm Steve for the purposes of this article, if you care. We usually write collaboratively so 'me' or 'she' is irrelevant. We write together here as 'All-Nudist' most of the time. And always have. Sometimes we strike off on our own!
We accidentally ran across the following video and had the same thoughts: though a couple years apart when this anti-war song came out, both of us took it very seriously as a deep and important statement. The commitment of youth to ideals! Drama! Much older and experienced now, we both recognize the shallowness of our initial impressions. It wasn't any sort of new understanding, not at all. Old news, new format and audience!
We also agreed that the message hasn't changed one bit today, and though the means of presenting that message changes with the times, there have always been those trying to get that message across.. Most don't listen.
It's a perhaps simplistic and unrealistic message, similar to the idea that a pretty famous guy also (allegedly) tried to get across a couple millennia ago: Love thy neighbor.
Simplistic and unrealistic... Unfortunately, we haven't learned that lesson yet either. That's why this simple song may be trite, but still very relevant to our lives today. Plus, we DO get to post what we want!
Without further ado, here's The Coven singing 'One Tin Soldier' along with someone else's graphics! Crank it up, take a toke, and ask yourself... WHY? (And if you want, there's another one right below this one you might like, or at least ask some questions...)
Consider the impact of the internet on social and global communications today; the advent of TV available to most had a similar impact on the explosion of shared ideas and knowledge in the 50's and 60's. Add to that the impetus of popular misic widely available, and is it any wonder a social revolution occurred?
That generation's parents would have spent most of thier lives hearing only what they were supposed to. Suddenly, all sorts of new ideas and viewpoints were all over the place and available to their kids!
It was songs like these that began insinuating thoughts into the public consciousness in a way never before possible. And the world changed.
It changed through the efforts of gentle folk-singers like these. They paved the way for the loud and angry protest music that followed and powered a change in society never before seen.
Small starts to big things!
